  9. Microsoft Teams could really do with a toggle to control background off/blur/on when you're joining a call - clicking to choose background is a faff if you always use the same one.
  10. I'm fairly pragmatic about how a bunch of internet stuff doesn't work in the way I'd have done it... but I really don't understand why YouTube videos with child-safe/educational content can't be added to your Watch Later playlist. Seems illogical.
  11. Is there a Chrome extension that swaps between "do not", "will not" etc and their contractions?
  12. Weirdest part of the forced migration from SSE to Ovo is the part where they keep claiming to be one company yet have different bank accounts, online accounts, staff, phone numbers, call centres, hold music, systems and account access...

  15. "Men don't have friends. They have wives who have friends who have husbands." Interesting stuff on the role of work & third places as friendship hubs, pressure on partners as men lose touch, and putting in the effort to keep in touch. bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m001c6g2 (thx @undermanager)
  16. 📢 Only a few tickets left for the next Edinburgh meetup! @jonoellis/1567060226305654784

  19. This post by Cory @doctorow is a really good explainer on the John Deere hack and what John Deere's simultaneous prevention of repairs by owners and security flaws mean. @doctorow/1559206724535554054
  20. Enjoyed reading this piece on "taste" are.na/blog/notes-on-taste. From Picasso: “when art critics get together they talk about Form and Structure and Meaning. When artists get together they talk about where you can buy cheap turpentine.” Taste rests on turpentine.
  21. My Glastonbury 2022 faves: Paul McCartney, Billie Eilish, Wolf Alice, Four Tet, Haim, Phoebe Bridgers, Crowded House and Wet Leg.
  22. #GoogleDataStudio users - has anyone spotted an issue with Search Console filtering where the regex doesn't work?
  23. Does anyone know how to get to speak to a human at @OpenreachHelp? Our postcode gets full fibre (and has cabinet space) but BT/ISPs can't provide to us as Openreach have incorrectly categorised our address.
  24. Absolutely love this. @kottke/1507383830512078849
  25. I tried to upload my sister's 1992 dance show recording to YouTube and a copyright claim on 1 song out of a 2+ hour show (Cliff Richard And The Drifters - Living Doll) blocks it from anyone viewing the video, even privately. Not sure that's how it's supposed to work!
  26. Congrats to the @Scotcensus2022 team - it is a great experience and it's fab to be filling in online for the first time.

  32. Go check your eBay saved searches. ebay.co.uk/myb/SavedSearches - what's the oddest thing you've on the hunt for? Mine are some “choose your own adventure” James Bond books from the 80s. jamesbond.fandom.com/wiki/Find_Your_Fate £60+ each whenever they turn up.
  33. I’m curious about etiquette for inviting people to recurring meetings and accounting for the impact that they have - like “Hey, this meeting will actually take up 2 weeks of your year… and I’m assuming that’s okay!” How do you handle this?
  34. Do other people find the constant headset conversations Sainsbury's staff have whilst serving a bit disconcerting? I understand masks and screens have dehumanised customers but giving less than 50% attention to the customer feels rude...
  35. Lateral Flow Test question... on the Orient Gene's Rapid kits has anyone else had trouble getting the sample out of the dropper due to the white foam bung?
